Cafe in the Dene sits quietly alongside Castle Eden Dene, offering locals and visitors a straightforward spot to pause and recharge. This is a casual, no-fuss cafe that fits naturally into a day out exploring the natural beauty of the surrounding woodland, making it a convenient stop for walkers, dog owners, and families.

The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, with a handful of outdoor tables that come into their own on sunnier days—ideal for anyone wanting to enjoy an al fresco break while their dog stretches its legs. Inside, the vibe is simple and clean, with friendly staff who create a low-key but pleasant environment.

Menu-wise, Cafe in the Dene keeps things homely. It’s well-regarded for its home-made cakes and hot or cold snacks, suitable for a light lunch or a sweet treat after a walk. Options like the chicken stuffing and gravy panini or the quiche with salad lean towards familiar comfort food rather than anything flashy, and prices are approachable without feeling cheap.

The cafe seems particularly popular during afternoon hours, with its afternoon tea attracting those looking for a gentle, sociable pause—perfect after a stroll through the Dene or a visit to nearby coastal paths. The cheese scones come recommended by locals who appreciate the attention to simple, well-executed baked goods.

This venue is best suited for people who value a calm, homey environment with a close connection to local nature. Dog owners will find it especially convenient, and anyone wanting a peaceful spot for a cuppa away from busier town centres will appreciate its quiet charm. Whether it’s a mid-morning pit stop or a relaxing afternoon break, the cafe fits comfortably into a laid-back day spent outdoors nearby.

Lovely little cafe to visit for a well earned cuppa and cake after a long walk in the dene. It's dog friendly with a few tables outside for sunny days too. Hot and cold home made snacks, delicious cakes too. A small, simple, clean and friendly cafe. Worth a visit for the gorgeous cheese scones alone.

Great cafe! Popped in for lunch after a walk down the coast. Everything was delicious and staff were really welcoming and service was fab. Dog friendly too, would definitely go back!

We popped in for a quick meal before a long walk in the dene and were pleasantly surprised at how reasonably priced everything was - 2 meals (quiche and salad, and a beef bun with gravy) and 2 drinks for just over a tenner. The staff were lovely and the atmosphere was very peaceful. It’s worth the visit if you’re in the area.

Had a delicious brunch / lunch of Sweet Chilli chicken panini and pot of tea, while my wife opted for the carrot cake with a flat white. The cafe was busy but managed to find a table straight away. The car park was full, as it was a lovely sunny day, so had to park on the roadside. The staff were very friendly and helpful. My wife bought a cheese scone to eat later. The homemade cakes and apple pie looked delicious. Highly recommend a visit.
